PLCB TO HELP 14 POLICE DEPARTMENTS INITIATE THEIR OWN SOURCE INVESTIGATION PROGRAMS THIS & THAT

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board gave State College Borough $80,000 about a year ago to initiate an 18-month pilot program aimed at getting to the source of  underage drinking.  State College’s program is winding down (please read story below), and the Borough has crafted a manual with strategies and advice for implementing an effective Source Investigation Program (SIP).

Besides the manual, communities can apply for $10,000 in grant money from the PA Liquor Control Board to assist in their efforts. The deadline for applications is Friday, May 20.  The application and guidelines can be downloaded from the Alcohol Education section of their Web site at www.lcb.state.pa.us.

The grant project must be directly related to addressing the source of alcohol to the under-21 population. It must involve the investigation and prosecution of individuals, organizations, and businesses who knowingly purchase alcohol for and/or provide alcohol to minors. Applicants must be recognized law enforcement departments whose jurisdiction is within the boundaries of the state of Pennsylvania.
