Savvy. Articulate. Professional. Just three of multiple seminal qualities that Attorney Andy Shubin possess, so as to expediently and efficiently guide one through their legal concerns.
When I was a 19-year old college student, I made a mistake that did not resurface until a year and a half later. Luckily, Andy Shubin was there to assist me. During the final months of my senior year, where I was top of my class, had a job offer, and was in great health, my life had become dark with the clouds of mystery and uncertain fate from my legal situation—I had tangible discomfort. Andy, along with my parents, was the only shining stars in a sky filled with turmoil. Through his expertise of the law, knowledge of the political arena, and honesty, we were successful in receiving a very favorable mitigated sentence. I said “we,” because Andy was always a member of my team and never acted otherwise. I can confidently say he is my attorney, my mentor, and now a friend I can count on. State College is blessed by the work of Andy Shubin..
Andy steered us towards the most relevant issues in the case, working both with our ideas and adding his own careful legal interpretation of the situation. He steered us away from issues that were personally important to us, but which could have been counter-productive to our case, or at best dead-ends. He was unfailingly discrete, pleasant and professional while dealing with a very serious and unpleasant matter. He was polite and respectful to everyone involved, even when we didn’t want to be, but he was quick to defend us when needed. The first lawyer we spoke with didn’t know the law around our case and quickly advised that it wasn’t really too important – which was dead wrong. Andy immediately recognized the seriousness of the matter, did extensive research to build a case, guided us through the slow, frustrating legal system, helped us to avoid stress and harm during the process as much as was possible, and ultimately helped us to win. We had never been involved in litigation before. We learned that there are good and bad lawyers out there. Andy is a very good one. We learned that the legal system designed to protect us is sometimes abusive and misguided. Andy is a tireless advocate for the individual or family that has been victimized by this system.
Amazing attorney!! Andrew Shubin was appointed to me through the Federal Courts when I was 19. I didn’t have the income to pay for an attorney out of pocket and I was facing two very serious criminal counts involving conspiracy. I immediately was concerned before I even met Andrew thinking that I wasn’t going to be a priority because I wasn’t paying him . Most cases you hear of involving Public Defenders don’t turn out too well for the defendents. I can assure you that was not the case with Andrew Shubin.
I was in a case with over 30 co-defendents facing similar or exact charges and I received the lowest prison sentence out of everyone that was involved in the case. Andrew got one of the counts completely dropped and the other significantly reduced. I was blessed the day I met him and I thank GOD that I was so fortunate to have such a caring and hard working attorney. Words can’t even do justice to how wonderful of a person he is, not just an attorney. Even after my sentencing date I still received a letter from Andrew wishing me luck and asking me to contact him in the future to let him know how I was doing. I’ve never met a more personal attorney and I would highly recommend him to any and everyone. Someone should consider themselves extremely lucky to have Andrew defending their innocence and their character. R.C. Mr. Shubin, Good morning Attorney Shubin, I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday and your New Year brings you health and much happiness. As you may remember it was not too long ago when David and I requested your assistance to help R. You were successful in getting R’s sentence reduced from a felony to a misdeameanor. Yesterday, R shared with his Dad and I that he made the deans’ list. R had 5 science courses and was able to pull off 4 A’s and 1 B. He continues to work part time . . . and is a very dedicated student majoring in biology with his eye on a Phd. in genetics. I wanted to share this with you because we think of you often and are forever grateful for your committment to justice. Life would have been very different for our son without your help . T.W.
Thanks again for everything,

After working 30 years in my professional field, I never thought I would be sabotaged by an employer, but when I was unjustly terminated from a Director’s position, I was devastated. But I put it aside, wrote a rebuttal to my termination, and applied for Unemployment. I was granted Unemployment Compensation. However, much to my surprise, my Employer appealed the decision. Knowing they were a large corporation with a team of attorneys, I knew I could not enter the hearing without representation; that is when I contacted Andrew Shubin. Andy was compassionate and understanding of my story, but he helped me stick to the facts. He was brilliant and masterful during the hearing, resulting in a win for us. This was a blessing as I had a family to support. But Andy didn’t stop there, he continued to support me with yet another appeal from my Employer. Again the ruling was in our favor. Not only did this assure me that I had acted professionally in my position, but I don’t know what my family would have done without him. Thanks Andy!

I hope this letter of thanks finds you, your family, and your staff well. I apologize that I was unable to get this to you sooner. As you are aware, my life is quite hectic. This is not an excuse, however, considering the time and care you put into my case, I wanted to put the same time and care into letting you know how much I appreciate your commitment to helping people, to helping me.
When I found myself in my situation, I dreaded contacting any attorney for help due to past experiences. However, I knew that I would not be able to tackle what was before me on my own. Fortunately, I made the decision to contact you and words cannot describe how thankful I am for making that choice. You were recommended to me because of your knowledge of the law; however, you provided that and more. Your care, concern, and commitment to your clients’ goes way beyond anything I ever expected. As disconcerting as my situation was, I always felt reassured by your dedication to being mindful of dates and communication. It was comforting that I could call your office and always be greeted by a pleasant voice followed by a prompt response. Thank you, Andy, for your excellent service. The empathy and genuineness you provided throughout the duration of my case was astounding!
I have already recommended you to at least one individual and I will continue to do so. Likewise, I will not hesitate to seek your services again in the future should I need legal counsel. You are definitely the best!
Just wanted to let you know how much we appreciated your brilliance and the “peace of mind.” It has brought not only to me but my family…and yes, it was a lot of fun!
Thanks so much,
I want to thank you for all the help and guidance you’ve given me. . . . I am truly thankful that I had you as my lawyer. You really came through for me and delivered. You have been continuously supportive and helpful. Anytime I had a question, you were prompt with a response. Not everyone is as lucky as I was. I cannot thank you enough for all you did.
…I really feel I need to thank you personally. You will never know how much I appreciated knowing that you were in control of (my son’s) situation from the very beginning. This incident has put an enormous black cloud over our family, and it will take a long time for that to disappear. However, the one silver lining was knowing that we had a very genuine and experienced attorney handling my son’s case. I honestly feel we were very blessed knowing you were handling things for all of us. You were always available to us which I personally was very grateful. I am the worrier in our family, and I can’t thank you enough for always responding to my emails or phone calls. You are a tremendous asset to your profession.Again, thank you so much for all you did for us. We will be forever grateful.
Andrew Shubin’s counsel benefitted me through a very traumatic and stressful ordeal in ways I cannot begin to explain. He is completely respectable, non-judgmental, and understanding, while remaining completely professional. Being a student put in a situation in which I knew nothing about, Andrew Shubin was able to explain all of the details of my case, run through scenarios of possible outcomes, and decipher which route to take that would have the least amount of negative impact on my future.
The end result of my case, thanks to Andrew Shubin’s credible reputation and abilities, was the absolute best case scenario. After my case was settled and the charges were actually dropped, again thanks to Andrew Shubin, he further established his worth by taking care of possible aftereffects and remaining in continual communication during the entire process.
I really cannot say enough positive things about my experience with Andrew Shubin and would recommend hiring him for any and all situation in which you are seeking a respectable, knowledgeable, and most importantly effective attorney.
Thank you for all of your help. I really appreciate what you have done to get me out of foster care. I did not like it there. You came to my rescue. You are my hero. I heard about what you did to get me out. Thanks a lot and I mean it.

I’ve been wanting to write this letter for a long time. We were so appreciative of what you did for our son almost 2 years ago. I saw you on channel 10 news and it brought back so many emotions. …. Our son is doing so well; he just started a new job. He works 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and really likes his job and he gets to stay home with his daughter during the day. Thanks to all your hard work. Our new granddaughter is the joy of our life. She is such a blessing. God has been so good to us. He sent us you and has continued to bless us and bring us such happiness. You have been such a blessing to us and we know that you will continue to bless many others with all your hard work and love for people.

As you prepare for your child to come into the world, any expecting parent dreams for only one thing, “A Healthy Child.” In one small moment that realization had been crushed right in front of us. Our son had been born with a lifelong disability, cerebral palsy. I, for the most part, wasn’t sure how to feel about the situation. My emotions were in tatters. I felt frozen in time, empty and disconnected. As our son spent several months in the hospital, we turned to friends, family, and God for comfort and consolation.
We had been discussing the situation since his birth and finally decided that we were going to pursue legal action for our son. This decision did not come easy for us. Neither of us had taken legal action toward anyone before. We had mixed emotions about it, but as you take small steps forward in becoming a new parent your mindset changes. What we needed to do now was best for our child. Nothing else mattered.
Shortly after the hospital we had come in touch with Andrew Shubin, a well-known defense lawyer in the State College, PA area. Andy swiftly got the case moving forward. . . and assembled a priceless team to help us with our situation and sons’ future. Over the next two years or so we went back and forth until finally a settlement had been reached.
Around the time of the settlement closing our son was about two years old. Caring for our son was getting complex, and it was only going to get more difficult. At this time, all of the settlement was put into a fund that would pay out as considered necessary. It was a greatly timed blessing of relief that had seemed to come out of nowhere. … Roughly seven years have passed now since the settlement, and our son is almost 9 years old. Looking back to the day we decided to get legal help, it was the best decision we had ever made for our child. Without help of people like Andy Shubin . . . and (his)excellent team of associates, our son would not have had anywhere near the quality of life that he does today, nor do we know what the future would bring.
Our son now has all the resources he requires to live a fulfilling life. … Now, with everything in place, we can find comfort in knowing that he is properly cared for now, and for the rest of his life. There is nothing that surpasses the feeling of knowing your child with daily special needs, will be blessed with all that is required.
“Attorney Shubin [is] one of the most able criminal defense counsel who practices before us, and who has a firmly established reputation in the Court for being a careful and cautious attorney in all respects.”

Middle District of Pennsylvania
My family and I would like to genuinely thank you for your time, hard work, and dedication.
Thank you so much for representing me … I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it, even though I know it’s your job. You were always very personable, respectful, and professional. I truly respect and admire the work that you do. …Thanks again!
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your kind support and your good advisement during this difficult period. We consider it a stroke of good luck that we discovered your firm on the internet and that you were able to represent my son.
I wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks for your help. I felt that over the course of his problems, you persisted—often despite his ambivalent cooperation—and always showed an interest in his wellbeing as well as his legal picture. We are pleased with his progress and with the fact there will be relatively little legal residue in terms of a record but mostly with the fact that you made a terrible experience much more tolerable.
Thanks for all your efforts in handling the twists and turns that he took us through in this case. He’s finally back on a path toward maturity, and it’s amazing to see.— V.E.
I felt as if you displayed the most knowledge of the processes and the people involved. You outlined and informed me in a way that was easy to follow and understand. Also, your answers to my questions were quick, confidant . . . I felt as if my concerns were as important as someone with a $50,000.00 trial approaching.
Thank you so much for speaking to the undergraduate law society on October 17th. We really enjoyed hearing about your Supreme Court experience and everyone really liked the police facts and handouts. Thank you for your support.

DRIVING WHILE BLACKAltoona Police Officer charges African American Penn State student who was a passenger in a car driven by and African American driver. After a physical altercation, police charge student with Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct. Charges dismissed after hearing.
I was a passenger driving through . . . Altoona PA . . . with another African American. We were asking for directions (and) . . . approached by an officer who asked us why we were in Altoona . . . and . . .told the driver his tinted windows were illegal. The officer asked again, “Why are you in Altoona” . . . Fifteen to twenty minutes later, several squad cars aligned behind the car we were in and the officer told me to get out of the car. . . Several officers began to scream simultaneously, which left me confused and in fear for my life. As I just tried to keep my hands up the officer reached for my belt and slammed me down to the ground, shouting “This aint State College Pa, we don’t play that out here.” This went on for several minutes—kicking and slamming my head against the tire and door of the vehicle and tire . . . the officers asked me repeatedly, “Where’s the drugs?”
I sought out Andrew Shubin for representation, and explained to him the dynamics and details of the case. Andrew Shubin recommended that we have a . . . hearing. Attorney Shubin (argued successfully) for a dismissal based on the fact that the (officer’s) suspicion was based on the fact that we were African Americans. The case was dismissed.
I learned a lot that night, and I hope this testimonial can shed some light on the fine line between being guilty of a crime, and having your civil rights violated—not even as a person of color, but simply as a human being.
